LTE UE power on procedure or UE Initial Access Procedure

In this chapter we shall see on a high level what are the procedures that are followed what an UE is powered on.

Below are the messages that are exchanged between UE, eNB and MME.

End to end messages, will be seen in later chapters.

The call sequence can be summarized as below:

1. UE device is powered on.

2. Cell search performed.

3. Time and Frame synchronization done.

4. MIB decoding.

5. SIB decoding.

6. Cell Selection.

7. RACH procedure.

8. Registration/Authentication/Attach.

9. Default EPS bearer setup.

10. Dedicated EPS bearer setup.

11. Receive and transmit IP packets.

Based on the above message flow, below diagram can be constructed.
